Woodford Fun RunBy
The Woodford Fun Run is put on by the Anglican Parish of Woodford and Kilcoy. With so much obesity around, and poor health on the increase, it’s refreshing to find a social group raising money by encouraging people and their dogs to be active and have a run, rather than spend money and eat chocolate.
Starting from the back of the church hall of Saint Matthias’, Woodford, the fun run heads down a short decline before pushing gradually up a series of little hills for two and a half kilometres. It then heads back down a big hill, before closing with a return run up the first downhill.
Well I heard there were hills in it anyway. I’m a bit of a hill monster, so they hardly registered.
The PoochTo5k dogs and runners were there in the form of Cameron with Sherbet, Kirsten with Tiger, Audrey with Guinness, and Francis with Cinnabar. I could make a joke about how nice it is of the parish to welcome all kinds of Sinners, but I’ll resist.
Anyway you may remember last year’s report, when we had run the fun run for the first time and been made to feel very welcome. It happened again – the kind folk of Woodford made us feel right at home, even allowing us to bring our pups into the shade of the parish hall and providing us with water for their bowl.
Last year Cameron ran with me and completed the course in 31:25, which he was pretty pleased with. We took it easier this time, maybe because the little guy (9 years old only five days earlier) had been doing a little less running, and maybe because I had been doing a little bit more, and I was sore. In a pretty amazing coincidence, we ran exactly the same time as last year for this course – 31:25. How’s that for consistency, hey?
The girls took a more conservative approach, as Audrey was looking after an injured Plantar Fascia and was not trying to break any records. They were still happy to take the dogs out for the day and support a lovely bunch of hard working people who put on a great little run for us.
Thanks again to the good folks of the Anglican Parish of Woodford and Kilcoy. The details of next years Fun Run are up on their website, and you can be sure that we’ll be there again with dogs in tow – or is that vice versa, hey Guinness?
