Why Run With Your Dog?

Personal training for dogs. You’re kidding, right? Actually, no, we’re not. Research suggests up to 40% of our dogs are overweight, and they suffer from the same health complications that overweight people do. Veterinarians (including myself) are becoming more and more concerned about the increase in joint pain, heart disease and other obesity related illnesses in dogs. Hence, Pooch to 5k. Dogs can’t lift weights, or use the gym. If you’re going to increase their fat burning, you need to increase the intensity of their exercise. This means that a daily stroll just won’t cut it any more, it’s too laid back. The Pooch to 5k program will help you get your dog from doing nothing much to comfortably running 5km, over a period of 12 weeks.

Because you’ll be running with your dog, you’ll also get a great workout three times a week, as you train yourself to run 5km. Why not subscribe to our dog health and fitness newsletter and grab your dog, and you’re ready to go!

Save Money with Pooch To 5k!

By

A dog on a treadmill?!I was looking at some of the alternatives to running with your dog. I came to the conclusion that not only are we helping you and your pet get fitter and healthier, we’re doing our bit to keep the family budget under control while it happens.

For instance, you could hire someone to run with your dog for you.  This service is offered in Sydney, Australia, and many places overseas.  The Australian service charges $20.00 per half hour, overseas they charge as much as $45.00 for a 45 minute run.

So even on the cheap side, using the Pooch To 5k program can save you around 17 hours of dog runner rental at $40.00 per hour = $680.00 – and that isn’t counting the cost of a personal trainer for you!

Another alternative is to rent time on a treadmill for your dog at a doggy spa.  These babies come in at around $25.00 for thirty minutes of running for Rover.  So, once again, the 17 hours of the Pooch To 5k program saves you big dollars – $850.00 dollars to be precise.  Plus, of course, the cost of seventeen hours of visits to the gym for you while your dog is attending the salon.

But these pale into insignificance when compared to buying your canine companion a treadmill.  Prices for dog treadmills range from $490 to $1870 and beyond.  And if you want a treadmill for yourself too, well, the sky’s the limit!

So, you see – the Pooch To 5k program can save you lots of money.

On a more serious note, if your pup doesn’t have to visit the veterinarian for treatment of any of the preventable obesity-related diseases that can affect a sedentary dog, you could save much, much more than a few hundred dollars.  You could save your dog’s life.
